Micro Development Fund (MDF) was launched in 2001 as NGO and as a spin off international organisation Danish Refugee Council (DRC). It inherited, definitely and officially, micro credit, grant and vocational training programs from the beginning of 2004.

As MDF mission relates to economically active and poor people in Serbia, primarily beneficiaries were Refugees from Croatia and Bosnia and Internally Displaced People from Kosovo. Additionally, since 2003, clientele within credit program was expanded to local population. Thus, nowadays MDF serves more local people, mainly unemployed. Those are Entrepreneurs who want to start up new or develop the existing small businesses, mostly population with limited access to commercial banks.

MDF supports, additionally, its vulnerable beneficiaries in improving housing conditions since 2007, by financing construction or adaptation of their houses. Non-financial services - continually vocational training and periodically technical assistance has been implemented from the inception of organization.       

Throughout past years MDF succeeded to structure quite experienced and trained staff, committed to clients' needs and social community goals.

Donors (UNHCR, Danida and ICRC) entrusted and transferred previously donated revolving funds, for the purpose of micro-lending, to MDF in 2005, after positive institutional assessment had been performed.
